SCIL Day: Exploring Creativity

On February 13th, our SCIL participants gathered in Spring Green to explore creativity, emotional intelligence, and leadership. Read more about the day here, including to learn how the SCILsters answered “are you creative?” by the end of the day. 

We asked our SCIL participants the most valuable portion of the day. Here’s what they had to say:

• I liked that the common thread was discovering our personal emotions and strengths - a requirement of being creative.

• Tour of APT - I took a lot of inspiration from the aura of joy and creativity imbued in the place.

• Al Anderson - different perspectives on how people influence others. Can incorporate art and creativity in how you are as a leader in any profession.

• The takeaway of creativity being more than visual arts and music. Humans are creative by nature, but many have lost their creative spirit.

SCIL Alumni Impact Survey Reminder

Alumni: We want to hear from you! How did SCIL Impact you? We sent out a separate email asking you to complete our survey so we can put together meaningful data for the Sauk County Board of Supervisors as they discuss budget allocations. Your insights will help us understand and showcase the real impact of SCIL. Survey will close March 7. With over 450 SCIL alumni, we are hoping to compile a significant pool of data.

Sometimes in life you find yourself walking an unfamiliar path. As an unabashed reluctant leader, recently elected as President of our statewide Union, SCIL has been the flashlight illuminating that unfamiliar path. The program encourages healthy growth through examining roots and reaching out with new branches. Both empowering and enlightening at the same time, SCIL has helped me see that there is great untapped potential in all of us. I find myself slightly less reluctant to view myself as a leader after every session.   

Leadership Resource

We started the Extension Retention zoom sessions with our Class of 2023 cohort as a way to discuss practical applications of leadership concepts, half-way between the in-person sessions. In 2024, we started inviting guest speakers.

Retired Adjutant General Knapp is a fascinating guy: Air Force Academy graduate, flew backseat in F-15’s in Afghanistan, has 3000 flight hours in C-130’s and many more interesting bits to his military career and leadership history. You can read more about him here.
